Naval Systems Engineer - RF Communications

We are currently seeking a for a Naval System's Engineer interested in supporting the RF Communications scope for the JSS program. The Naval System's Engineer will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that designs, develops and tests electronic systems for the JSS program. The work will involve updating and reviewing Engineering work products as well as supporting production activities. Familiarity with Systems Engineering concepts and practices is beneficial. A demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and processes is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • RF Communication systems consist of (but is not limited to) the following: HF V/UHF Damage Control Communication System (DCCS) – TETRA based
  • In their efforts to develop and sustain Naval systems, Systems Engineers are called upon to integrate a variety of sensors, software, firmware, and apps on commercial and military platforms. The essential functions and responsibilities of a Systems Engineer include
  • Tailor the system engineering process, practices and tools
  • Provide timely and accurate status updates
  • Develop preliminary and detailed designs for system and subsystem elements
  • Review and validate internal and subcontractor designs, plans, and schedules
  • Deliverables,Identify,characterize, and describe issues in the system or its design through problem reports and document and design reviews
  • Author technical documentation to capture the system and subsystem designs including the architecture, interfaces, and installation element
  • Additional terms Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the designs are consistent with needs, desires, and concerns of the end-user
  • Supplier Comments Support the development of verification and validation artifacts including plans and procedures
  • Collaborate with other functions during the implementation and integration of the system and subsystem designs
  • Resolution of technical issues arising during the implementation, integration and testing of the system and subsystem elements
  • Support the installation and/or integration testing of the systems remotely or on customer site and/or technical subcontract management including management of work scope and compliance of the (subcontractor)solution
  • Typical Duties Update or create engineering artifacts, including engineering drawings, Bill of Material (BOM), Vendor Furnished Information (VFI), Set to Work Agendas, Installation Instructions, Problem reports, and technical reports
  • Support the procurement team and shipyard production team
  • Coordinate and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary dispersed team
 

Basic Qualifications

  • University degree in engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the design and integration of complex systems in commercial and/or military domains
  • Ability to succeed in cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work independently as specified under the Regulatory Compliance section.
  • Experience in delivering marine in-service support of operational assets.
  • Previous experience working on a defense contract.
  • C4 Combat Systems experience in any domain.
  • Internal or external communication systems experience in any domain.
  • Physical Demands Predominantly office work, but occasional work in dockyards and onboard naval ships is required.
  • May require bending, twisting, and working aloft on naval ships.
  • Clearance Requirement Reliability, CGP, or Trade clearance.
  • Secret NATO clearance would be a plus.

CompensationCAD $87,000 - $93,000
The base salary or rate offered to an applicant within this range is determined by considering several factors, including the individual's geographic location, skills, competencies, and unique qualifications. This ensures compensation is fair and aligned with the specific requirements and attributes of each candidate.
